Music heals, connects and brings joy! | EnglishLounge with Timothy Hopkins
The German-American musician Timothy Hopkins is a recipient of a scholarship of Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Leipzig e.V. (LMN) for playing the cello at social institutions. Being a master student at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Leipzig (HMT), he was elected to perform for LMN at prisons, nursery homes, hospitals, facilities for children and adults with special needs.
By this, he is following the spirit of our eponym and star violinist Yehudi Menuhin, who also performed at military hospitals and for survivors of concentration camps after WW II and is being quoted “Music is a therapy. It is a communication far more powerful than words, far more immediate, far more efficient.”
Eight years ago, LMN was founded in Leipzig and since then exceptional musicians are awarded with the scholarship that enables them to gather professional experience during their education by performing at locations whose occupants are not able to attend venues.LMN organizes 50 closed concerts at several facilities in Leipzig per year.
Timothy will talk about his education, share the experiences he gathered during his time of reception of the LMN scholarship and will delight the attendances with his music.
